Collective Dreams - Storytelling
"Tell me a story."
The way we re-tell a story that was passed down to us when we were young, speaks so much about who we are, what we truly care about, the things we lost on the way, our griefs and hopes.
Show Yourself - Paper Mache Masks
Using the story as an inspiration, we make papier-mache masks that are intended to reveal instead of conceal, to show who we truly are: the persona, the self. the shadow. Combined with textile art, such as loom weaving, needle felting, and community sewing projects, we weave the personal experience into the archetypal existence, connect to the cultural and ancestral heritage, and bind the individuals into the community.
I hosted weekly workshops throughout September and October, and our participants made many amazing masks. Those masks became the heart and the soul of our All Souls' Day celebration at the SET community garden. Read more about this special event with the link below.
Multi-desplines creative approaches
After collecting stories and imagery from the community, we use a wide range of art disciplines to further extend the possibilities of our collective dreams and create a fluid, constantly moving sense of belonging and identity. Paper mache masks, textile art such as felting and weaving, and a community mural project will be further developed to invite the participants to weave their personal stories and life experiences into a series of community art presentations.
To be continued
The project will continue in the coming period. Stay tuned to our future activities.
