Mothering in the city textile Sessions
It started with a PhD project by Barbara, who is researching mothers with a migrant background and their mothering experiences in urban environments. Under the instruction and guidance of two amazing textile artists from Warmi Kuyen, we learned about the rich history and tradition of arpilleras, a South American textile tradition that played an important role during the Chilean dictatorship, giving women a way to support each other and tell their stories. Week after week, we sat together, stitched on our own textile artwork that tells our mothering story, and began to form a bond that extended over the project. We will continue our weekly session, and all mothers are welcome, especially those who feel they need a support network and some listening ears!

The Exhibition & Presentation
We would like to present the first phase of our results in an exhibition and a presentation event. From June 10th (Wednesday) to 13th (Saturday), we will showcase our textile work at FactorIJ, together with a text telling our mothering experience. We will also present our other talents as artists, musicians, and many other things. A painting inspired by our community will be shown together with textile artworks, and a song will be sung, and everyone who comes to the presentation is welcome to share their own mothering (/parenting) stories!
